The Complete Works of Fitzgerald Translated by Professors in FLC were launched
On January 21st, a new book launch for “The Complete Works of Fitzgerald (10 volumes)” was held at the Yan Ji You bookstore in Changning District. The works were translated jointly by Prof. Wu Jianguo and experts from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and many other universities, and the works were published by the People’s Literature Publishing House.
Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) is adored by readers all over the world. He is one of the most outstanding chronicles of the "Jazz Age" in the 1920s and one of the representative writers of the poet laureate and the "lost generation", with Hemingway and Faulkner as the three giants in the history of modern American literature. Fitzgerald wrote 5 novels (including an unfinished work) and more than 160 short stories.
As the only complete Chinese translation, the works include five novels: “The Great Gatsby”, “The Side of Paradise”, “The Beautiful and the Damned”, “Tender is the Night”, “The Last Tycoon”, and the four short stories: “Flappers and Philosophers”, “Tales of the Jazz Age”, “All the Sad Young Men”, “Taps at Reveille”, and the first Chinese translation of “The Crack-Up”.
Translators of the Work include many experts from Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Shanghai Normal University, Hangzhou Normal University, Shanghai Dianji University and many other universities. Also, over ten graduate students of Shanghai Maritime University made contributions to the translation.
In the book launch, part of the translators shared their stories of translating the words, including Prof. Wu Jianguo, Dr. He Shaobin, Dr. Geng Qiang, Prof. Peng Qinglong etc.
