Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the results of filing and approval of undergraduate majors in general higher education institutions for the year 2021, and the French major declared by our college was successfully approved.
Since the establishment of the working group for the declaration of French major in early 2018, our faculty have been working together for four years under the guidance and strong support of the leaders of the university and the Academic Affairs Office, from the feasibility study, writing the training program, introducing the faculty to the Municipal Education Commission, and finally getting the filing and approval of the major by the Ministry of Education.
According to the research, among the five existing universities in the Shanghai Lin-gang area, there is no French major. Therefore, the establishment of a French major in our college can realize the misalignment development with similar colleges and universities in the Lin-gang area, and also can better fulfill the demand of French talents for the development in the Lin-gang Special Area.
The College will take the construction of French major as an opportunity to further adapt to the requirements of the university to serve the national strategy and build a multidisciplinary world-class maritime university as well as the development needs of the foreign language discipline itself, to further strengthen the internationalization of the College, to improve the quality of personnel training, to actively prepare for the construction of the first-level discipline doctoral point, and to bring the discipline development of the College to a new level.
