On the afternoon of November 6, 2019, Zhu Yaobin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, met with Steve Corbett, Head of the Department of Languages and Applied Linguistics, Carmen Pasamar Márquez, Deputy Head of the Department, and Ms. Jia Ning, Director of the Portsmouth China Representative Office of the University of Portsmouth, UK, who were visiting the School. Guo Haixia, Vice President of Teaching and Learning, Liu Huidan, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Program, and Wang Wenjing, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the College, attended the meeting.
Secretary Zhu Yaobin firstly expressed a warm welcome to the visiting foreign guests. He pointed out that our college and the University of Portsmouth have carried out many exchange activities since 2011, including the 3+1 double bachelor program for undergraduates, 3+1+1 master program, summer PSE program (IELTS English intensive course), summer study tour program, etc. The two universities have a solid foundation of cooperation and are important partners of each other.
At the meeting, Steve Corbett and his delegation expressed their gratitude to our college for the welcome. He also pointed out that the University of Portsmouth has specialties in language, shipping and commerce, which are very compatible with our English (shipping direction), business English and translation majors, etc. Director Steve Corbett gave high recognition to the cooperation projects carried out by the two universities in the past.
In this regard, Secretary Zhu also highlighted new directions for future cooperation: firstly, the exchange of teachers between the two schools, such as short-term teaching, teaching workshops, etc.; secondly, cooperation in the development and research of teaching materials, such as the development of business English teaching materials, translation teaching materials research, etc. Steve Corbett and Carmen Pasamar Márquez also agreed on this.
This meeting deepened the content of cooperation between the two sides, and laid a more solid foundation for further promotion of the dual bachelor's degree program, PSE language enhancement program, and summer study abroad program. Both sides hope that the two universities will continue to maintain close cooperation in 2020 and further broaden the areas of cooperation.
