On the evening of June 12, the school selection competition of the 2019 Foreign Studies Institute - Guocai Cup National College Student English Speech Contest was successfully held in Room 3A103 of the Teaching Building after careful planning and preparation. The contestants from various colleges competed fiercely in this competition.
The competition was mainly divided into three parts: speech on a fixed topic, impromptu speech and Q&A with the judges. At the beginning of the competition, the host, Ms. Zhang Dan, opened the competition with a fluent English and a relaxed introduction, after which the contestants took the stage in order of drawing lots to give their speeches. In the speech session, the contestants gave a 3-minute off-the-cuff speech on the theme of My Big Story in 2049. They were either enthusiastic and passionate, or slightly restrained and slightly nervous, or easily and fluently expressed themselves, winning applause. In the impromptu speech session, the contestants randomly selected topics and expressed their opinions on the spot, and were able to combine life and study examples to argue their views. In the question-and-answer session, the judges asked questions based on the content of the contestants' speeches, and the contestants answered in English on the spot.
The two-and-a-half-hour competition was intense and exciting. The three judges made comments on the performance of the contestants and selected the first, second and third prizes. Finally, Song Xiyue from the School of Foreign Languages won the Grand Prize with her unique perspective, innovative ideas, fluent speaking and confident performance.
