In the afternoon of January 3, 2019, the School of Foreign Languages invited Professor Chai Ming Jiong, professor and doctoral supervisor of Shanghai International Studies University, to give a lecture entitled Language Service Industry in the Era of Professionalization. Vice Dean He Shaobin presided over the lecture, and some teachers and graduate students of the College of 18 attended the lecture.
Professor Chai first introduced the characteristics of the era of professionalization and the impact that the development and application of technology has brought to us. On this basis, it was extended to the translation industry, introducing the characteristics of modern translation services and indicating that translation will move towards language services. After that, Prof. Chai explained the basic characteristics of the translation industry in China and suggested that translation is like a clinician and should be practiced continuously on the basis of theory. Prof. Chai also pointed out the links involved in translation students regarding the connection of various elements of translation enterprises and the translation project management process. Finally, Prof. Chai summarized the future development direction of translation as a service industry.
Through Professor Chai's humorous language and informative examples, students gained a new and comprehensive understanding of the professionalization of the translation industry and a clearer understanding of translation learning. The report was warmly received and the students benefited greatly.
