At 1:30 p.m. on November 16, 2022, the College of Foreign Languages held a meeting of the leadership team and democratic evaluation in the 124th Lecture Hall, which was attended by the leadership team and all faculty members.
Li Pingyou, secretary of the Party Committee of the College, firstly introduced the work of the College in strengthening the ideological and political construction, implementing the decision and deployment of the higher level to accomplish the annual target, executing the democratic centralization system and carrying out the construction of the Party wind and clean government, analyzing the existing problems and formulating improvement measures in the past year. The College always adheres to the overall leadership of the Party, the leadership team constantly improves its position, consciously plans its work around the goal of building a high-level maritime university with global influence, promotes the construction of disciplines and professions, and executes the relevant work deployment of the Party Committee of the University. Continuously do a good job in the introduction and training of teachers, 7 new faculty members, organized to promote the College's young teachers and the main college teachers to form academic teams of course research. The college attaches importance to the employment of students, and the employment rate of the 2022 graduates ranks among the top, while encouraging the innovation and entrepreneurship projects of college students, with 7 new projects at the municipal level and above, and students winning one special prize and one first prize each in the National College English Contest.
Dean Zhang Yan introduced the main development line, basic ideas and team building of the college in the first two years of the 14th Five-Year Plan. Under the background of new liberal arts construction, our college insists on taking the road of foreign language college with maritime characteristics, cultivating talents in interdisciplinary and interprofessional paths, building a multi-level, organic and energetic faculty team, paying attention to the problems of industries and fields, enriching the connotation of disciplines and majors in the process of solving problems, and serving national strategies and regional economic development; our college dovetails with the development of the new Lingang area, giving full play to the advantages of foreign language disciplines and majors. Our faculty and students use the Lingang New Area Multilingual Service Center as a platform to serve the construction and development of the Five Important Areas in the new area of Lingang, and at the same time expand the social influence and visibility of the university in the society. This year, Cardiff University, a Russell Group university in the UK, signed a cooperation agreement on joint training programs to further enhance the level of international education.
Guo Haixia, Vice President of Teaching and Learning, and Jiang Zhejie, Vice President of Research, also made presentations on their work in charge.
In terms of teaching work, our teachers were awarded 1 first-class undergraduate course in Shanghai universities in 2021, 1 key course in Shanghai universities at the municipal level in 2021, 1 project recommended to declare the Shanghai Curriculum Civic Demonstration Project, 6 model courses in Curriculum Civic Demonstration in 2022, 1 first-class offline course in the university, 3 first-class online and offline hybrid courses in the university, 2 textbook construction projects, 2 courses in university-enterprise cooperation, and 1 course was selected as a national higher education intelligent education platform. Our teachers won the third prize in the 5th Shanghai University Young Teachers Teaching Competition, 2 third prizes in the 2nd National University Teachers Teaching Innovation Competition, and the second prize in the 2nd Wisdom Tree Cup Curriculum Civics Model Case Teaching Competition.
In terms of scientific research, our projects have been steadily promoted, high-level papers have been well received, horizontal project funding has achieved a breakthrough, and the establishment of teams and platforms has taken shape. A number of our teachers published A and B journals, and the total number of published and accepted papers in SSCI, SCI and A&HCI journals in this appraisal period is nearly 20, which exceeds the total number of papers published in foreign authoritative journals in previous years, and is the first time in the history of our institute to have more than 10 A and B papers published in a single year, including 3 postgraduate students who participated in the supervisory papers and had their signatures. Our teachers have published 20 monographs, translations and edited books at home and abroad, including first-class publishing houses such as the Commercial Press, China Social Science Press, People's Literature Press, Tsinghua University Press and Shanghai People's Press.
Liu Zhi, deputy secretary of the party committee, made a presentation on epidemic prevention and control, student management, employment promotion, and counselor team building. Colleagues of the academic staff system have always been fighting on the front line, actively working on new semester orientation report, new students' entrance education matters, scholarship evaluation, student safety and psychological problems mapping, ethnic minority students care exchange, graduates' previous employment situation combing, and the theme of learning the spirit of the 20th Party Congress. At the same time, a number of systems have been sorted out, such as the support measures for students with academic warnings, the plan for students with psychological problems, the plan for monitoring and handling public opinion, and the implementation rules for student awards and merits.
After the presentation, all the faculty members evaluated the leadership team of the college by secret ballot.
