In order to further focus on shipping, logistics and Marine characteristics, deepen the Foreign language & maritime talent training model of the College of Foreign Languages, and build a professional development path that adapts to the needs of the shipping industry. On the afternoon of October 11, Liu Zhi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Foreign Languages, Mr. Mao Jun, part-time faculty counselor, Mr. Zhong Rui, student counselor and his team led more than 40 new student cadres of the College of the class of 2023 to visit the automated container terminal of the fourth phase of the Yangshan Deep Water Port.
Shanghai Yangshan Port, as the world's largest intelligent container port, has advanced facilities and rich transportation resources, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of trade in China and even the world. The group of teachers and students arrived at Yangshan Port at 2 PM, with large container ships shuttling between the docks and impressive use of various automation equipment and advanced technologies. The teachers and students first watched the special publicity video of the construction of Yangshan Deep Water Port. Through the on-site explanation of the staff, we had a preliminary understanding of the construction and development of the port and the automatic loading and unloading process of the terminal. Afterwards, the teachers and students came to the loading and unloading area of Yangshan Port, observed the loading and unloading process of large container ships up close, and also understood the storage and management of cargo. During the port visit, Mr. Liu encouraged the students to carefully observe and study, actively apply their foreign language knowledge to the shipping industry, and strive to lay a solid foundation for their future careers.
At the end of the visit, the teachers and students had an interactive question-and-answer session with Yangshan Port staff. Everyone actively asked questions, and the staff also patiently answered them with relevant professional knowledge. The students were amazed and proud of the modern facilities and efficient operation and management of Yangshan Port Phase 4 automated Terminal, and said that this visit not only expanded their knowledge, but also gained an in-depth understanding of the actual situation of port operation and international trade, and the activity will have a profound impact on their study and career development.
The College of Foreign Languages always pays attention to guiding students to integrate foreign language learning into the maritime characteristics of the school, and focuses on guiding teachers and students to serve the construction of a maritime power, a shipping power, the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center and the construction of a new port area of the Free Trade zone. The Yangshan Port visit not only built a good learning platform, strengthened the students' understanding of the importance of combining English learning with shipping practice, but also enhanced the communication and exchange between the college and port and shipping enterprises, and played a positive role in promoting the college's cultivation of international maritime talents around the main position, main battlefield and main application scenario of shipping.
